About the role

We are looking for hands-on Photonics Engineers to strengthen our device assembly, characterization, and test capability as we scale our IMU products toward production. Working under the direction of our senior photonics leads, you will build and characterize integrated optical devices and subassemblies, run structured measurement campaigns, and turn raw device data into engineering conclusions.

This is a lab-centric role: precision assembly, optical alignment and coupling, automated measurement, and disciplined documentation are the daily work. Multiple positions are open at the junior to intermediate level.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble precision integrated-optical devices and subassemblies to documented processes, and help improve those processes for yield and repeatability.
  • Set up and operate optical test benches: alignment, fibre coupling, source and detector configuration, and instrument control.
  • Run device characterization campaigns (insertion loss, resonance characteristics, noise, stability) and analyze results in Python or MATLAB.
  • Automate measurements and data collection; maintain clean, traceable datasets.
  • Perform optical simulation and modeling of device building blocks under senior guidance (Lumerical, COMSOL, or equivalent).
  • Support integration of photonic subsystems into IMU products alongside electronics and firmware engineers.
  • Prepare test articles and perform pre- and post-test characterization in support of environmental and qualification test campaigns.
  • Document assembly steps, test procedures, and results rigorously; flag and help root-cause non-conformances.

Required Qualifications

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Physics (Optics), or a related field.
  • 1 to 4 years of hands-on experience with optical devices in industry, or equivalent intensive graduate laboratory experience.
  • Practical optical bench skills: alignment, coupling, and measurement of guided-wave or fibre-coupled devices.
  • Competence in data analysis and scripting (Python, MATLAB, or similar).
  • Careful hands, patience, and strong attention to detail in precision assembly and measurement.
  • Clear written documentation and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience characterizing photonic integrated circuits, optical resonators, or interferometric sensors.
  • Familiarity with optical simulation tools (Lumerical, COMSOL, or equivalent).
  • Cleanroom, micro-assembly, or fibre splicing experience.
  • Familiarity with signal processing for electro-optical measurements.
  • Interest in inertial sensing and navigation applications.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada.

About OSCP

One Silicon Chip Photonics (OSCP — legal entity OSCPS Motion Sensing Inc.) develops next-generation photonic inertial measurement units (IMUs) and navigation systems for GNSS-denied environments. Our on-chip integrated-photonics gyroscopes and MEMS sensors deliver precision, size, and stability advantages that let autonomous, defense, aerospace, and heavy-industry platforms navigate reliably without GNSS. We are Montréal-based, venture-backed, and ITAR-free (Canadian jurisdiction) — a deliberate strategic advantage for our customers.

Why join OSCP

Work with cutting-edge Canadian photonic navigation technology.

Own the hardware and software customers touch first — directly shaping how our products get adopted and deployed.

Join a small, fast-moving, collaborative team bridging deep tech and real-world applications.

What we value

  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced, resource-constrained startup environment.
  • Strong ownership — you ship, document, and support what you build.
  • A collaborative mindset paired with the confidence to advocate for the right technical path.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a bias toward action.
